Zen Garden-like Tablescape
TABLESCAPE | Ground Cover as Center Piece
I have had many different art events at my home. Actually the only events I hold in our house are art related. A few years ago, a motion picture producer friend got few of us together to organize a group to promote “script reading” events as “Live Read” and bringing screenplays to life. Several of these table readings were held at our home and were a truly fun and a uniquely different and enriching experience.
Following my motto “your only limitation is your imagination”, for this event I wanted something that was unpretentious and literally down to earth. As usual, I love to bring outside in, so I employed the Japanese Zen garden concept of "karesansui" where rocks symbolize a landscape and the flow of water and life.
Here's what I did:
- Collected river rocks from the front of our home and washed them thoroughly
- The clean and shiny rocks were layered in the center of the table
- Then I nestled in the center of the rocks stainless containers that I filled with ground cover plants.
My Zen garden tablescape became an evocative work of art that drew my guests into a state of contemplation and tranquility that provided the perfect backdrop for a "table read" where spoken words provided the drama.
The effect was spectactular with simplicity, tranquility and beauty that welcomed and delighted my guests.
